Version 3 is an evolutionary step on Version 2. It broadens the scope of ITIL concentrating on the service lifecycle approach, with 5 new books covering:
The lifecycle approach extends the operational disciplines covered in V2 and makes service management the focus of IT. Service management becomes an integral part starting with the overall Strategy and covers the ability to design, develop and implement Service Management from a strategic perspective.
The Version 2 Service Support and Delivery processes have also been updated and are spread across the new Service Design, Transition, and Operation volumes. New processes, including Supplier Management and Event Management, have also been added.
Version 3 courses are now available with further courses being delivered in 2008 and 2009. Credits can now be earned by attending and passing the courses allowing an 'ITIL Expert' qualification to be achieved. It is clear that Version 3 will replace Version 2 although it may be 2009 before we see the full range of courses available. Further details can be found at our sister site here.
